Promises of the new Prime Minister

On September 21^st 2024, via a democratic process, citizens of Sri Lanka elected the leader of the Marxist movement as the nation’s Executive President.  The coalition which he leads, the National People’s Power (NPP) was the only party represented at the ballot which explicitly championed the liberalisation of sodomy and its consequences.

On the 24^th, the new 3-member cabinet was appointed consisting of the only 3 NPP MPs inclusive of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD).  AKD also signed the extraordinary gazette dissolving parliament, with the 14^th November declared as the date for parliamentary general elections.

Dr Ms Harini Amarasuriya took oath as the 16^th Prime Minister, and was sworn in as the Minister of Justice, Education, Labour, Industries, Science and Technology, Health and Food Security.

The new and perhaps interim Prime Minister is a social justice activist and a former sociology and anthropology lecturer who has advocated that Sri Lanka by constitution should become a secular state.  She advocates for gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and was part of the Parliamentary Caucus for animal welfare.
